The thieves reportedly hijacked an armoured car carrying diamonds and jewellery from a cargo ramp of the Dutch airline KLM at Schiphol airport on Friday (25 February).
The airline declined to comment on the value of the loss, although it was estimated at millions of euros, reported The Associated Press. The hijacking of the truck could apparently be the biggest ever diamond raid in the country. The Dutch media has said that jewellery worth about EUR75m was stolen.
The thieves, who were heavily armed, seized the vehicle after threatening the guards, said a source quoted by Reuters. No one was injured and the vehicle was later recovered.
